Welcome to IIT

Informatics Institute of Computer Studies was established in 1990 by Informatics (Pvt) Ltd., one of the leading Information Technology Business and Software Development companies in Sri Lanka. In 1990 Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) was established earlier known as Informatics Institute of Computer Studies (IICS) and registered with the Board of Investment in Sri Lanka. IIT also established its Center for Postgraduate Studies in August 2000.

A British BSc (Hons) Degree in Information Systems / Computing commenced in 1990 in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University in United Kingdom. The first batch of Honors Graduates got their awards in September 1994. In 1995 BSc (Hons) degree in Business was also set up, with the first batch of Business Graduates receiving their awards in September 1999.

In 1998 the 5 year Part-time degree in Information Systems / Computing was also started.

The Institute began with a total student population of about 25 students in 1990. The current student population is around 450 students.

In 2005, the institute commenced conducting five undergraduate degree courses and one MSc course in collaboration with the University of Westminster. The courses offered by IIT are

  • BSc (Hons) Information Systems with Business Management
  • BEng (Hons) Software Engineering
  • MSc Advanced Software Engineering

In 2006, IIT commenced the Foundation Certificate in Higher Education Course.
